Even with perfect hardware optimization, bad network settings can make CS2 feel unresponsive. High ping and packet loss cause hit registration issues and teleporting enemies. Here's how to optimize your connection.
Key Network Console Variables
- rate 786432 — sets maximum data rate, critical for hit registration
- cl_updaterate 128 — how often your client requests server updates
- cl_cmdrate 128 — how often your client sends commands
- cl_interp_ratio 1 — interpolation ratio for lowest latency
- cl_interp 0 — let the game calculate optimal interpolation

CS2 matchmaking doesn't always pick the lowest ping server. In Steam Settings → In-Game, review the CS2 server picker and filter by your nearest data center. Anything under 30ms is excellent, 30–60ms is good, above 80ms causes hit registration issues.
Windows Network Optimization
- Set network adapter to maximum performance in Device Manager → Power Management
- Use a wired ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi
- Enable QoS on your router and prioritize your PC's traffic
- Try 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) or 8.8.8.8 (Google) DNS for lower lookup latency
