Xbox Game Bar runs background processes and hooks into DirectX that consume CPU cycles and can interfere with exclusive fullscreen mode. Here's how to fully disable it.

What Game Bar Actually Does

Game Bar runs several background services: GameDVR continuously buffers the last 30 seconds of gameplay. GameMonitor monitors active games for overlay features. The DirectX hook can prevent true exclusive fullscreen and adds per-frame overhead.

Disable via Windows Settings

Go to Settings → Gaming → Xbox Game Bar and toggle it off. Then go to Settings → Gaming → Captures and turn off all background recording. These two changes stop the continuous video buffer.

Disable via Registry (Complete Removal)

Open Registry Editor (regedit) and navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\GameConfigStore. Find GameDVR_Enabled and set it to 0. Then navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\GameDVR and create DWORD AllowGameDVR set to 0. Restart your PC.

Disable the Background Service

Press Win+R, type services.msc. Find Xbox Live Auth Manager, Xbox Live Game Save, and Xbox Accessory Management Service. Right-click each → Properties → Startup type → Disabled.
